Counselor Job Description
Counselors will serve on the Program Staff and will work to execute the camp program. Each week, the program staff will be assigned to one of our campers groups OR they will be assigned to support staff. When assigned to a camper group, they will work to execute the day-to-day activities of the campers. 3rd-7th grade campers will join the camp from Monday through Friday throughout the summer. The activities that the staff member will help coordinate include hiking, canoeing, fishing, climbing, art & crafts, archery, outdoor living skills and more. The entire staff will experience a 1 week rotation where they will not be on the front lines of working with the campers but will serve on the support staff for Camp New Fork. As a support staff member, jobs will vary but could include supporting the kitchen staff or maintenance team.
Responsible to: Camp New Fork Program Director
Contract period: June 9 – August 17, 2025
Work week: The work week will usually be Monday through Friday for staff members, although there will be some instances where some staff may need to support on an extra day in the week.

General Responsibility - Carry Out Camp Programs
Guide group and individual campers towards successful participation in all aspects of camp activities
Carry out established roles in enforcing camp safety regulations
Develop group activity plans with participants as appropriate
Supervise all aspects of the campers' day
Instruct campers in emergency procedures such as fire drills, van evacuations, etc.
Help campers plan participation in special events and activities
Assist in teaching or leading an activity as assigned
General Responsibility - Fulfill Other Staff Administrative Roles
Prepare for and actively participate in staff training, meetings, and supervisory conferences
Set a good example for campers and others including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing clean up and chores, and sportsmanship
Follow camp rules and regulations pertaining to smoking, use of alcoholic beverages, and use of drugs
Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment , and facilities
Maintain good public relations with campers' parents and general public
Submit all required reports on time
These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required

Ability to communicate and work with groups (age and skill levels), and provide necessary instruction to campers
Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques
Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity
Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness or injury); and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers
