The Legend of Knifewing
THE WINDBRINGER
Long ago, in the heart of the Wind River Range, where the wind can howl and the peaks cut through the sky, there lived a warrior unlike any other. His name was Knifewing, a creature of legend whose story has been passed down through generations of campers at Camp New Fork like a whisper in the wind. When you come to camp, you will learn of the legend of Knifewing, the half-man, half-eagle who is said to carry the strength of the earth and power of the sky in his veins.
As you enter camp, you will see the totem pole with an eagle on it. This representation of Knifewing will greet you when you arrive and bid you so long when you depart – but it will be our hope that you always carry the legend of Knifewing with you to give you strength.
ENDURING THE SPIRIT OF KNIFEWING
When you stand on the shores of New Fork Lake, close your eyes to feel the wind.
Listen carefully to hear the whisper of Knifewing: wings cutting through the air, carrying strength and courage to all who call upon him.
His power lives in you. And through your strength of character and your wisdom you will fly. The wind is at your back, now. Soar.
