TOM AND CATHERINE HOLLAND
FOUNDERs AND PRESIDENTs
The Holland Family is well known for their leadership in the world of summer camp.
As a student on a Wilderness Adventures trip in the 1990s, Tom became enthralled with the outdoors and the concept of outdoor leadership with youth. After his program, he went back to his home in Illinois and began designing adventure programs for kids and his peers. He officially started his camp career at Teton Valley Ranch Camp (TVRC) as a counselor at the age of 19. Over the next fifteen years, he served in almost every capacity at TVRC. From counselor, to trip leader, to program director, camp manager and eventually Executive Director – a role he held for 7 years.
During his time with TVRC, he began to emerge as a voice of the next generation of camp leaders and was appointed to the National Board of the American Camp Association at the age of 27. Following his time at TVRC, Tom went on to serve as the Chief Foundation Officer and later the Chief Executive Officer of the American Camp Association. In this capacity, he served as the spokesperson for the American summer camp industry. Known as a leading expert on the summer camp experience, Tom has visited countless camp programs and spoken to national and international audiences about the value of summer camp and outdoor recreation.
A former award winning high school teacher, Tom holds a BA in Secondary Education and an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis.
Catherine’s passion for teaching children in the outdoors is partnered with her passion for nutrition and the culinary arts. As a registered dietician with a B.S. in culinary arts from St. Louis University, she has always brought a wealth of knowledge to meal planning and food preparation. Throughout her professional career, Catherine has held a variety of roles including Camp Head Chef, Assistant Director and Director of Teton Valley Ranch Camp (TVRC). Outside of camp, Catherine has worked as a registered dietician and certified diabetic educator at St. John’s Hospital in Jackson, Wyoming.
Both Tom and Catherine are active volunteers in their local community. Tom serves on the Executive Committee of the Grand Teton National Park Foundation and is an active member of the Jackson Hole basketball community where he coaches and serves on the board of directors of the Teton Avalanche. An avid fisherwoman, Catherine serves on the board of the Jackson Hole Chapter of Trout Unlimited.
Tom and Catherine can be found on the beach at Camp New Fork, building campfires, playing the guitar and fishing with their 4 children.
